"Ring...ring...!" It was recess time. We rushed out of our classroom like a flock of birds eager to get out of a cage. "Quiet please!" boomed the stern and authoritative voice of Miss Koh, our form teacher and our school's discipline master. "Jun Heng, please follow me to the staffroom after you have finished your food as I need your help to carry some books," she said to me.
After eating a plate of fried noodles, I walked to the staffroom. Just as I was turning the corner to the staffroom, I heard a noise. I stopped in my tracks and listened. Sure enough, I heard another sound, sounding like a sob. Just then, I saw that the storeroom door was slightly ajar.
I walked in and saw a girl, about Primary two sitting on the floor sobbing, with her head resting on a crate. Immediately, I recognized her as my sister, Cindy. On hearing my footsteps, she turned around.
"Cindy, why are you crying?" I asked gently. Still sobbing, she said, "I lost the purse containing the money mum gave me to buy a dictionary." "Don’t worry, maybe someone might pick it up," I said and with those words, I led her out of the storeroom, knowing full well that I would get scolded by Miss Koh, but I felt that I should help my sister.
Just then, Cindy’s best friend, Brenda, came running to us, shouting at the top of her voice. "Hey Cindy, I think I found something belonging to you!" and started waving Cindy's purse in the air. "My purse!" exclaimed Cindy. "Thanks, Brenda."
After saying goodbye to them, I hurried off to the staffroom, where I met a very angry Miss Koh breathing fire. I told her what happened and she forgave me and praised me for helping my sister even when I knew I would get into deep trouble.
