It was the last day of school. I walked home at a leisurely pace, kicking a stone as I went, occasionally stopping to avoid a friendly feline. Birds chirped and flew away after eating their fill from the park. I reached my block of flats and waited for the lift. The doors groaned as they moved open. After I reached my floor, I walked to my house door equipped with an electric lock, guarding against intruders from going in. Just as I was opening my door, I heard a few noises behind me. Turning around, I saw two men in black fiddling with my neighbors' door. Almost immediately, I sensed that something was wrong as I knew my neighbors were away as they had recently won a trip to the United States of America. If my neighbors were in the U.S.A., then who are these people trying to get in? Slowly, I opened my door, stopping at every sound and hoping that those two men did not hear the sounds my gate made. They were most probably too engrossed in what they were doing. After closing the door, I crept into the sitting room and dialed the police hotline and told them what was happening. They told me to keep an eye on the men and hung up after assuring me that they would be there shortly. I stayed behind the door, watching the men through the peephole and hoping that they would not give up and leave before the police come. Fortunately, they seemed to be persistent as they did not do so. Less than five minutes later, the wailing of sirens could be heard. The two men began to run towards the lift and started pressing the lift button frantically upon reaching it. When the doors opened, the men got a fine shock when policemen came out of the lift. My neighbors were also informed. A few days later, my neighbors came home. They thanked us profusely and presented us with lots of goodies and delicacies from the U.S.A. It was a happy day for us and a good deed done.
